As a result of recent legislation, effective October 1, 2026, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is moving to an all-electronic registration system, eliminating the requirement for license plate stickers and printed registration cards. Residents with vehicle(s) registered in North Carolina will no longer receive physical license plate stickers or printed registration cards when you register your vehicle for the first time or renew the registration. Your vehicle registration will continue to be valid as long as you have paid your registration fees and vehicle property taxes on time.
