Pay Taxes

Cabarrus County real estate and personal property tax bills are due on September 1. They are delinquent if not paid by January 5. Once a tax bill is delinquent, it is subject to collection actions and/or tax foreclosure. Interest accrues at the rate of 2% for the month of January and 3/4 of 1% each month thereafter.

Cabarrus County real estate and personal property tax can be paid:

  • online using a credit card or debit card
  • mailing in the payment using the envelope and coupon provided with the tax bill
  • in person
  • at a local retail store using cash

Cabarrus County accepts full or partial payments and prepayments of any amount. These payments must be made prior to the delinquency date.

Pay Taxes Online

Cabarrus County accepts online payment of real estate and personal property tax by:

  • credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express)
  • electronic check

Online payments get processed through a partnership with Pay-it (a third party vendor). This vendor charges a convenience fee. This convenience fee is passed on to taxpayers who pay their property taxes online. Cabarrus County does not receive any part of this fee, nor is it part of your tax. 

  • $2 fee per transaction. Multiple bills can be paid using the shopping cart with only one transaction fee.
  • 1.85% credit card fee
  • $1.25 ACH electronic check fee

  2. Enter your real estate tax information

The system will display the amount of the fee. At this point, you have the option to back out of the transaction.

Pay Taxes In Person

Tax bills can be paid in person at the Tax Collection office. The office is located on the 1st floor of the Government Center. For your convenience, there are also two drop box locations available. One inside the lobby next to the entrance to the Tax Collections office. The other is accessible after hours and is exterior to the building. It is next to the parking garage entrance off of Means Avenue.

Make checks payable to Cabarrus County Tax Collector

Payments submitted by mail are deemed received as of the date of the US postal service postmark. Tax receipts are null and void if payment is made with a returned check that goes unpaid by the bank. NC General Statute § 105-357 allows for a 10% penalty on checks returned unpaid by the bank because of:

  • insufficient funds
  • nonexistence of an account

NC General Statute § 25-3-506 restricts processing fees to $25 per returned check.

Pay Taxes by Cash at a Local Retail Store

In just a few steps, you can pay your property tax bill with cash at a local retail store using myCabCo.

To make a cash payment:

  • Your payment amount must be between $10 and $999
  • You must be paying a current 2024 tax bill or an overdue tax bill

Follow these steps to get started:

1. Go to myCabCo

2. Follow the steps to pay your property tax bill

3. At checkout, select "Pay with Cash" as your payment method of choice

Note: If you have a stored credit/debit card or bank account, it will automatically appear at checkout. Select “Change Payment Method” to see the “Pay with Cash” option.

4. Enter your name and email address (street address is optional) and select "Create a Cash Account"

5. Select "Assign Barcode to Pay $--.--"

6. Print your barcode or view it on your phone from your email. If you're signed into a myCabCo account, your barcode link can also be accessed from the homepage. 

7. Go to your desired payment point 

8. Provide the barcode to the cashier and make your payment

 

After completing your payment, you'll receive an email confirmation. If you're signed in to a myCabCo account, a receipt will also be stored in your profile (see "Where can I find my receipt?").
