Work begins for Cabarrus Commission on Financial Efficiency
Published on May 01, 2025
The recently formed Commission on Financial Efficiency, also known as COFE, has started monthly meetings to discuss Cabarrus County finances.
Cabarrus Commissioner Laura Lindsey is the group’s chair. Other members include Cabarrus residents Lee Shuman and Wes Huneycutt. Former Board of Commissioners Chair Chris Measmer vacated his seat on the commission after being appointed to the N.C. Senate.
“This is a pivotal time for this county and this commission is helping to change the way we think about how we do things,” Lindsey said. “We’re already having great conversations about what works, what doesn’t, and what is a clear and sensible path forward.”
According to its mission statement, the group was established to:
- Bring more efficient and effective County services to Cabarrus residents by reviewing financial, construction and operational practices
- Report findings and recommendations to the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners for review and action
During the commission’s April 24 meeting, members heard about the work performed over the past year on the Strategic Plan, while also discussing school construction concerns and other financial matters. Others in attendance included County Manager Sean Newton, Deputy County Manager Kelly Sifford and Lauren Linker, clerk to the Board of Commissioners.
Many of the meeting’s discussion items, as well as accompanying Q&A documents, can be found at cabarruscounty.us/COFE. There, visitors can also find information about the group, photos, links to other budget materials and more. The site also offers an “Ask a Question” section for public submissions, as well as a place to share ideas about what topics the group should tackle in the future. Registration is required to submit on the site.
COFE meetings are held in the second-floor Multipurpose Room at the Government Center, 65 Church St. S, Concord. Meetings are open to the public. Upcoming meeting notices can be found by visiting cabarruscounty.us and selecting “Government,” then “Boards and Committees,” then “Commission on Financial Efficiency.”
