Thinking about flying a drone in or near downtown Concord? Cabarrus County is reminding residents of restricted areas around the Cabarrus County Courthouse and Cabarrus County Detention Center.

Under state law, drones may not be flown within the designated restricted area surrounding these facilities. The no-fly zone extends 500 feet horizontally and 250 feet vertically from the secure perimeter.

Signs are posted around the Cabarrus County properties.

The restrictions are intended to protect public safety and help prevent drones from being used to deliver prohibited items into secure facilities.

State law provides limited exceptions for authorized operations, including law enforcement, emergency responders, public utilities, commercial operators meeting state and federal requirements and individuals with written permission from Cabarrus County.

Anyone who flies a drone within the restricted area without authorization may face criminal penalties, fines and seizure of the drone.

Questions? Call the County at 704-920-3201 or contact Assistant County Manager Kyle Bilafer at kdbilafer@cabarruscounty.us.
