Drone Use Near County Facilities
To help keep everyone safe, North Carolina law sets limits on where drones may be flown near certain county facilities, including the Courthouse and Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) facilities. These limits apply to recreational and commercial operators alike.
The basics
Under N.C.G.S. § 15A-300.3, drones generally may not be flown within 500 feet horizontally or 250 feet above these facilities. This map(PDF, 1MB) shows the affected areas.
Need to fly closer?
Some operators may qualify to fly within the restricted areas, such as those with written permission from the facility, public utilities and commercial operators doing work related to their business, and emergency responders. If you think your work qualifies, please review the statute and reach out to us before you fly.
