Cabarrus hosting GO Bond Information Sessions with Q&A

This election season, Cabarrus voters will decide whether to approve General Obligation (GO) Bonds that would provide up to $400 million for capital needs identified by Cabarrus County Schools, Kannapolis City Schools and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Ahead of the election, Cabarrus will host four GO Bond Information Sessions with Q&A opportunities across the county.
The goal is to help residents understand what’s being proposed and what it means for them so they can make an informed decision at the polls.
The one-hour sessions will provide an overview of the proposed referendum, followed by an opportunity for residents to ask questions of County and school officials.
Residents are encouraged to learn all they can about the referendum before casting their vote.
The General Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3. In-person early voting begins on Oct. 15, with same-day registration available.

Why is a GO Bond being considered?
Cabarrus County’s public school systems have projected more than $1 billion in capital needs over the next decade. The proposed GO Bonds would provide up to $400 million toward those needs. GO bonds are approved by voters and would allow the County to borrow money for major capital projects and repay the debt over time through property taxes.
Proposed bond funding would support new school construction and large-scale maintenance and facility needs such as roof and HVAC replacements, plumbing upgrades and security enhancements.
The two ballot questions cover up to $340 million for Cabarrus County Schools and Kannapolis City Schools, and $60 million for Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
