Cabarrus provides competitive benefits packages with options that flex to your individual needs. The County offers premium incentives for non-smokers. Those who participate in and meet health baselines are also eligible for incentives.

The County designed an award-winning health and wellness program. This program helps employees succeed with:

Cafeteria benefits allow employees to pay for certain insurance premiums. Employees pay these premiums before taxes are taken out of their paycheck. Some cafeteria benefits include childcare and unreimbursed medical expenses. Paying for these benefits with this method may:

  • reduce your taxes
  • increase your take-home pay

Insurance

Cabarrus County provides medical benefits through Cigna. Employees can choose from two medical plans. Employees can also earn a preferred rate by:

  • completing health assessment baseline measures
  • living tobacco-free lives

Those covered on the County medical plan receive an annual routine eye examination. This covers all employees and dependents. Cabarrus County also offers vision material insurance through Community Eye Care. Benefits include:

  • an eye examination
  • contact lens fitting
  • eyeware plan of $150
  • discounts for other services, including LASIK

The County provides term life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. This insurance is $20,000 for each full-time employee. Employees have the option to purchase:

  • additional term life insurance
  • dependent life insurance

Cabarrus County also offers PPO and Non-PPO dental insurance through Delta Dental. Benefits included at no deductible are:

  • two evaluations and cleanings per year
  • space maintainers
  • X-rays and fluoride (for children under 19)

Cabarrus County offers accident, critical illness (with and without cancer) through Aflac. Value-added services are provided through Aflac.

 

Work/Life Balance

Cabarrus County offers Time Off Benefits part of our Total Rewards Program. These benefits include:

Cabarrus County offers an Employee Assistance Program. Confidential counseling is available through McLaughlin Young for employees and their families. This program provides free, confidential counseling for employees and their families. Cabarrus offers this counseling to help individuals better manage personal issues such as:

  • financial problems
  • drug or alcohol dependency

Charlotte Business Journal acknowledges employers for their Healthiest Employee Award. Cabarrus County was one of the employers recognized.

Wellness for Life a Cabarrus County Program The County’s comprehensive wellness program includes:

  • Employee Health and Wellness Center (clinic)
  • Workout rooms
  • Free or low-cost exercise classes
  • Annual health screenings
  • Wellness/Benefits Fairs
  • Health coaching by trained professionals
  • Educational opportunities (topics: nutrition, fitness, stress management, lifestyle)

Retirement

North Carolina Retirement Plans Logo The State administers the Local Government Retirement System. Employees that work 20 or more hours per week become part of this system. The County and employees contribute to the employee's retirement account. All full-time and part-time employees who work more than 1,000 hours (categorized as 102's) also are part of the County's 401K plan. The County contributes 5% of gross wages. There is an option for employees to make additional contributions. Employees may choose to participate in a Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan.

County employees may receive tuition reimbursement. Employees must take relevant educational classes and certifications to qualify.

Cabarrus County offers pet insurance plans through Nationwide. Benefits include:
