Spring into action: no wallet needed

Spring is almost here and park facilities are open until 8 p.m. so it’s a perfect time to come discover all that Cabarrus County Active Living and Parks (ALP) offers.

Whether you’re looking for meditative solo time or family-friendly adventures, the County has you covered with a wide variety of zero-cost activities.

“If you haven’t experienced the beauty of one of our parks or the camaraderie at our active living centers, there’s no better time than now to come see what we offer,” said ALP Director Londa Strong. “You’ll find there’s a ton to see and do.”

Here are some FREE ways to enjoy the County’s facilities:

  • Test your bike skills with berms, jumps, balance beams, hill and trails (Rob Wallace Park)
  • Shoot billiards (Concord Active Living Center)
  • Play basketball (Vietnam Veterans Park)
  • Utilize outdoor fitness equipment (Concord Active Living Center, Frank Liske Park, Vietnam Veterans Park and Camp T. N. Spencer Park)
  • Take a mindfulness stroll while focusing on meditation and breathing exercises (Frank Liske Park)
  • Play a game of pickleball or tennis (Frank Liske Park)
  • Identify birds or trees through a game of trail bingo (Frank Liske Park, Vietnam Veterans Park, Rob Wallace Park and Camp T. N. Spencer Park)
  • Treasure hunt through geocaching or orienteering (Frank Liske Park, Vietnam Veterans Park, Rob Wallace Park, Camp T. N. Spencer Park, Concord Active Living Center and Mt. Pleasant Active Living Center)

About Cabarrus County’s Active Living and Parks Department

ALP uses fitness, wellness and education to improve the quality of life for Cabarrus County residents. The County currently operates four parks and two active living centers, each with unique amenities.

The department is in a growth stage, with two new active living center/library facilities under construction in Mt. Pleasant and Afton Ridge, and a new 615-acre St. Stephens Church Road nature park in development. Virginia Foil Park is also under construction in Mt. Pleasant.

The department hosts a variety of programs, clubs, services and events such as Touch-A-Truck, the Senior Health & Wellness Expo and the Senior Games and Silver Arts.
