Primary election in-person early voting begins next month

In-person early voting for the 2026 primary election kicks off next month.

Beginning Thursday, Feb. 12, Cabarrus voters can cast their ballot at the Board of Elections Office (369 Church St. N, Concord).

Dates and times are: 

  • Thursday, Feb. 12 through Friday Feb.13, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
  • Monday, Feb. 16 through Friday, Feb. 20, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
  • Saturday, Feb. 21, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Monday, Feb. 23 through Friday, Feb. 27, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
  • Saturday, Feb. 28, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Voters may change their name or address at the early voting site.

Unregistered early voters enjoy a special provision that allows them to register on the same day they vote. Same-day registrants must show documentation with their current address. Acceptable documentation includes:

  • A North Carolina driver’s license or other government-issued photo identification showing the voter’s name and address
  • A copy of a utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or other government document showing the voter’s name and address
  • For students living on campus, documentation from an educational institution with the student’s name and on-campus housing address

Registration is not available on Election Day (March 3). The deadline to register to vote on Election Day is Friday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. North Carolina offers two primary ways to register outside of early voting: online or in person at the DMV or by mail. Bring ID

North Carolina voters will be asked to show photo ID when voting in-person and by mail. If a Cabarrus voter does not have an acceptable photo ID, they can get one free from the Board of Elections office (369 Church St. N, Concord)., or fill out an ID Exception Form. Key dates 

Here’s a rundown of all the important dates for the 2026 primary election:  

Feb. 6, 2026: Voter registration deadline (by 5 p.m.) 

Feb. 12, 2026: In-person early voting begins; same-day registration available 

Feb. 17, 2026: Absentee ballot request deadline (by 5 p.m.) (www.ncsbe.gov/voting/vote-mail)

Feb. 28, 2026: In-person early voting ends 

March 3, 2026: Primary election day

March 3, 2026: All absentee ballots must be received at the Board of Elections Office (369 Church St. N, Concord) by 7:30 p.m. 

Precinct location changes for 2026

Two precinct changes will take effect beginning with the 2026 primary election on March 3:

  • Voters assigned to precinct 02-07 (previously at TMSA Charlotte Elementary School) will now vote at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church (6841 Poplar Tent Rd., Concord)
  • Voters assigned to precinct 07-00 (previously Northeast Fire Station) will now vote at Bethlehem Church (3335 Bethlehem Church Rd., Gold Hill)

Updated voter registration cards have been mailed to affected registered voters.
