Jeff Jones named to Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners

Local attorney Jeff Jones was sworn in Tuesday as the newest member of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners.
Jones was tapped for the seat vacated by Chris Measmer following his appointment to the North Carolina Senate. Cabarrus County Clerk of Court Bill Baggs selected Jones after the remaining four commissioners didn’t reach a consensus on a replacement in the required 20-day window.
“I have complete confidence Jeff will be a great asset to the Board of Commissioners,” Baggs said in a post on Facebook.
Jones has been an attorney for 34 years, practicing mainly in financial law.
Following his swearing-in Tuesday afternoon, Jones said he was eager to get started.
“This county has been really good to me and my family, and I want to do what’s right for the county as a whole,” he said. “I want to bring unity. I want to bring a fresh new direction where everybody is working for what’s best for the county.”
Jones added that he will work for “transparency and integrity.”
Jones and his wife, Nita, live in Concord. The couple has three adult children, Myers, Helen and Sam, and one grandchild, Brox. The family owns the Far-Fetched Farm off Old Concord Road where they keep horses, alpacas and other animals.
“That keeps me busy when I’m not working,” he said.
Jones joins the board just as budget talks are ramping up. County Manager Sean Newton is expected to present the FY26 Recommended Budget on Monday, May 19. Typically, the board votes on the budget at the June Regular Meeting.
