Introducing Cabarrus County's inaugural Creek Week

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) will host the first ever Creek Week in Cabarrus County from Sept. 22-28. The initiative celebrates local waterways and highlights their crucial role in maintaining a healthy environment. 

Cabarrus County Soil and Water Conservation partnered with several local organizations to present a week of free events designed to raise awareness and engage the community. 

Creek Week schedule: 

  • Sunday, Sept. 21 – Aquatic Wild Workshop 
  • Tuesday, Sept. 23 – Community Art Upcycle Project (turn old cartons into a bird feeder) 
  • Wednesday, Sept. 24 – Water-themed Movie Night at Frank Liske Park (featuring ‘Finding Nemo’) 
  • Thursday, Sept. 25 – Water-themed Trivia at Cabarrus Brewing 
  • Friday, Sept. 26 – Frog Walk, fire chat and s’mores at Camp T.N. Spencer 
  • Friday, Sept. 26 – City of Concord Movie Night at J.W. McGee Park (featuring ‘Elementals’) 
  • Saturday, Sept. 27 – Creek Week Festival at Frank Liske Park, featuring creek stomp, kids fishing, ducky rescue, paddle boating, partner tabling, raffles, lake walk, community art upcycle project and more 
  • Sunday, Sept. 28 – World River Day Community Creek Cleanup behind David W. Phillips Activity Center in Concord 

Organizers invite the public to take part in activities that celebrate and teach the community valuable ways to protect local waterways. 

Registration is encouraged for Movie Night at Frank Liske Park, the Frog Walk at Camp Spencer and the Creek Week Festival. All events are free to attend!
