Extension Eats, Cabarrus County’s new cooking show, is dishing up fun, healthy recipes with Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Suzanne Doad.

The new program replaces Pam’s Kitchen, which ended when host Pam Outen retired earlier this year. CabCo TV Production Manager Jarrett Glass and his team film the new episodes in the Pamela C. Outen Teaching Kitchen, which was named to honor Outen's decades of service with Cooperative Extension.

The first episode of Extension Eats features white bean hummus and is now airing on CabCo TV (Spectrum Cable channel 22) and on Cabarrus County’s YouTube page.

Recipes will also be featured on the County’s social media pages.

A Cabarrus County native, Doad became the Family and Consumer Sciences Agent earlier this year. She grew up gardening with her mother and grandmother and likes to “cook a variety of things, from using tried-and-true family favorite recipes to new ones that feature some of my favorite ingredients,” she says.

After seeing family members suffer from nutrition-related chronic illnesses, she pursued the career she has today. “I believe in the power of food to make a difference in many aspects of our lives,” she says. “I hope to make (Extension Eats) a place for local voices and foods. Hopefully, someone will be inspired to try a new recipe, and maybe even find a new favorite.”

The first episode’s hummus recipe includes white beans, lemon juice, olive oil and more. The dish makes a great appetizer when hosting guests for the holidays.
