Cabarrus County Commissioners will hold their monthly Regular Meeting on Monday, October 19, at the Cabarrus County Government Center in downtown Concord.

The Regular Meeting starts at 6 p.m., and commissioners will vote on a variety of items discussed at the October 5 Work Session.

During that meeting, the board:

  • Heard from Finance Director Jim Howden on a law enforcement bonus program. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) announced the implementation of the Local Law Enforcement Bonus Program established by the North Carolina 2026 Appropriations Act. Under the legislation, the SBI will distribute a one-time $1,750 bonus to sworn local law enforcement officers. According to Howden, 244 Cabarrus deputies will receive payment.
  • Heard from Active Living and Parks (ALP) Director Byron Haigler on a programming grant. Active Living Program Manager Heather Frick earned the 2026 North Carolina Recreation and Park Association New Initiative Grant. The grant award is $1,500 and will be used to fund a new Senior Men Program Series hosted at facilities across the county. Officials say the program will create a space for older men to build new friendships, receive support and engage in activities that benefit them mentally and physically. No County match is required.
  • Heard from Charles Ratliff on a transportation grant award. Cabarrus County received an additional $73,767 from the North Carolina Department of Transportation through the Rural Operating Assistance Program. The program helps provide transportation services to eligible residents. No County match is required. Cabarrus County Transportation Services (CCTS) provides reliable, accessible transportation for eligible residents, ensuring they can reach critical services that support their health, independence and overall quality of life. Rides must be scheduled at least one business day in advance. Appointments must be between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., with return trips requested and called in by 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.cabarruscounty.us/transportation.
