Cabarrus County Commissioners will hold their monthly Regular Meeting Monday, November 17 at the Cabarrus County Government Center in downtown Concord. There, commissioners will vote on a variety of items discussed at the November 3 Work Session.
During that meeting, commissioners:
Heard a request from Interim County Manager Kelly Sifford and Finance Director Jim Howden to engage with potential lenders and the North Carolina Local Government Commission (LGC) to explore funding options for the upcoming school projects. Those include construction of a new Northwest High School and Northwest Elementary School, renovations at Jackson Park Elementary and A.L. Brown High School, and construction of a new Workforce Center at RCCC and building renovations on the campus. Commissioners suspended the rules and unanimously authorized the discussions.
Heard a presentation from Fair Director Courtney Wyatt and Chief Information Officer Todd Shanley on the results of the 2025 Cabarrus County Fair and Rodeo. According to the presentation, over 52,000 people visited the fair, and nearly 6,000 attended the rodeo. The fair featured a variety of entertainment options in addition to the rodeo, including the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, Hog Diggity Dogs stunt team, Cabarrus County Fair Pageant and various musical performances. Board Vice Chair Laura Blackwell Lindsey congratulated the fair staff for all the hard work, calling this "the best fair" she’s experienced.
Heard from Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Captain Chris Smith on the surplus of K9 Nora for medical reasons. Nora is a 7-year-old Labrador Retriever trained specifically in bomb detection. During her career, she was assigned to the courthouse and government buildings and responded to bomb threats in the county and beyond. Nora was recently diagnosed with a severe inflammatory autoimmune disease that affects her spine. The K9's handler, Deputy Chris Hartsell, has agreed to care for the dog.
Other items on the Regular Meeting agenda include:
A resolution honoring Commissioner Lynn W. Shue
An appointment for the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council
