Cabarrus County Commissioners will hold their monthly Regular Meeting on Monday, June 15 at the Cabarrus County Government Center in downtown Concord.
The Board is scheduled to vote on the Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027 (FY27) at the meeting. The FY27 budget runs from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
Last month, Interim County Manager Kelly Sifford presented a $412.2 Recommended Budget “built on efficient and effective resource utilization with a strong focus on maximizing taxpayer investments."
The recommendation maintains the current tax rate of 57.6 cents per $100 of assessed value. With that, owners of a $361,120 house (the median single-family assessed home value in Cabarrus) would pay $2,080.05 a year in County property tax.
Also during Monday’s meeting, board members will weigh in on several items discussed during the June 1 Work Session.
During that meeting, commissioners:
Heard an update from Finance Director Jim Howden on the next steps for the General Obligation (GO) Bond proposed for large-scale capital projects for Cabarrus County Schools (CCS), Kannapolis City Schools (KCS) and Rowan Cabarrus Community College (RCCC). The Board must approve the introduction of Bond Orders for each referendum authorizing the bonds, the reimbursement resolutions (which allows the County to reimburse itself) and notification of a public hearing tentatively scheduled for the July 21 Regular Meeting. The first bond order totals $340 million for CCS and KCS. The second is $60 million for RCCC. The bond would be included on the General Election ballot in November. Learn more about GO bonds at www.cabarruscounty.us/GOBondFAQ.
Heard a proposal from Interim County Manager Kelly Sifford to name a creek in Mt. Pleasant. A resident submitted the naming application to the United States Board of Geographic Names. If approved, the creek would officially be known as A. B. Fisher Creek in honor of the late Archie B Fisher. The waterway crosses Fisher Road slightly north of Downtown Mt. Pleasant. According to information submitted in the naming proposal, Fisher was a former Mt. Pleasant Mayor who owned the farmland the creek runs through. He also served in local civic and business organizations, including the Cabarrus County Fair Board of Directors.
The board is also scheduled to hear a proclamation recognizing Parks and Recreation Month. Commissioners will also recognize the retirements of Assistant Fire Marshal Doug Steele and Cabarrus County Sherriff’s Office Administration Specialist Sarah Kinney.
The June Regular Meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 15 at 6 p.m. Residents can livestream meetings from the County's homepage at cabarruscounty.us or YouTube (@CabarrusCounty). Meetings also air on CabCo TV (Spectrum Cable Channel 22).
