Cabarrus County Public Library System launches its 2024 Summer Reading Program on June 1. This year’s theme, “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” promotes the wonder and freedom reading can provide for all ages.

Through August 1, Cabarrus residents can log time spent reading and participating in a variety of age-appropriate literary activities like arts, crafts and shared imaginative adventures.

“It’s almost time for a summer of adventure, and our librarians have been planning this year’s program for months,” said Cabarrus County Public Library Director Melanie Holles. “They’ve developed a summer’s worth of fun and adventurous programs for all ages. Those include well-known and brand-new presenters.

“We invite everyone to join us on this adventure!”

In addition to activities, prizes are available for all participating ages.

Through the free Beanstack app (also accessible via web browser), participants can track their reading and participate in challenges from their mobile device. The app allows users to:

  • Scan barcodes to quickly add titles to reading logs
  • Track total minutes read through timed reading sessions
  • View personal reading statistics and complete related activities

This year’s challenge allows participants to complete the program by logging reading time or through a combination of reading and activities.

Log a set number of hours to reach the halfway point and win a prize. Then read the same number of hours again or read three more hours and complete three activities to win another prize.

In 2023, a record 3,324 participants logged 2,359,460 minutes read and completed 26,053 activities.

To participate, visit a Cabarrus County library branch to register for a library card or make sure your existing card is up to date. Then sign up for your Beanstack account at cabarruscounty.beanstack.com/reader365.

Reading logs will be available at all five Cabarrus library branches, or online from the County’s Summer Reading Program website.
