Cabarrus Social Services offering 'Powerful Tools’ for caregivers
Published on August 12, 2026
Cabarrus County Department of Social Services (DSS) is hosting a free virtual series for family caregivers beginning Aug. 26.
Caregiving can include running errands, shopping, preparing meals, providing transportation, managing personal finances, assisting with personal hygiene and more.
The course is designed for unpaid caregivers of loved ones. It is not a professional training course and does not offer continuing education credits.
Led by two experienced Adult and Aging Services social workers who are also experienced caregivers, the Powerful Tools for Caregivers series helps family caregivers:
- Reduce stress
- Improve self-confidence
- Communicate feelings more effectively
- Balance their lives
- Increase their ability to make difficult decisions
- Locate helpful resources
“I was about at my wit’s end,” one recent participant shared. “The communication tools will (help create) a better atmosphere and contribute to improved attitudes for both of us. It will never be easy, but it is easier than it was."
The six-week virtual workshop begins Aug. 26, with sessions held every Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. Registrants will receive “The Caregiver Helpbook” and other supporting materials before the course begins.
To register, call 704-920-1400 and select option 7.
Participants must have a computer with internet access and a webcam.
Respite may be available to assist with the care of loved ones during classes. If needed, call DSS Family Caregiver Support Specialist Donna Warner at 704-920-1882.
