Two Cabarrus County Construction Standards inspectors have been recognized for excellence in their respective fields by the North Carolina Building Inspectors Association and North Carolina Mechanical Inspectors Association.

Last month, Gary Martin was named District 3 Building Inspector of the Year by the North Carolina Building Inspectors Association, representing Cabarrus and 11 surrounding counties. Mike Cox was named Mechanical Inspector of the Year by the North Carolina Mechanical Inspectors Association.

Martin has served Cabarrus County for 12 years and is the lead codes enforcement officer for the Construction Standards Residential Building and Plumbing team. He oversees inspections of residential construction projects to ensure compliance with the North Carolina State Building Code.

"I like working to ensure the citizens of our county are living in homes that are safe and well-constructed," Martin said. "The people that work for Cabarrus County are hardworking and dedicated to serving our customers."

Cox has been with Cabarrus County for more than 10 years and serves as an electrical/mechanical Level III inspector on the residential team. He inspects electrical and mechanical systems in both new and existing residential construction.

"I work for Cabarrus County so that I can protect the public by doing my job," Cox said.

“These awards reflect the technical knowledge and experience required to inspect residential construction and ensure it meets state safety standards, while also providing excellent customer service to contractors, outside partners and their co-workers,” said Construction Standards Director Matt Love. “Their work helps protect residents while supporting safe, code-compliant development throughout Cabarrus County. I am very proud of this recognition of their hard work, expertise and dedication to Cabarrus County.”
