Cabarrus County Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Cabarrus County will pause to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 19. The County is closing government offices and several facilities, giving residents a chance to reflect, celebrate and participate in local events.

What’s closed

The Government Center, Human Services Center, Construction and Demolition Landfill, Household Hazardous Waste and Recycling Center, Animal Shelter, Veterans Services Office, LunchPlus Clubs, libraries and active living centers.

What’s open

County parks will operate on their normal hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Republic Services will follow its regular trash and recycling schedule.

Join the celebration

The annual Dream Day Parade in Kannapolis kicks off the day on Jan. 19 at 11 a.m., followed by the MLK Dream Day event at the Laureate Center. The celebration features guest speakers, live entertainment, an art contest, a minority business expo, a health and wellness fair, an HBCU information fair and more. Board meeting update

The January Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting has moved to Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. Meetings are held in the Board Chambers on the second floor of the Government Center, 65 Church St. S, Concord.
