2025 Veterans Day events and closures
Published on November 04, 2025
Each November, Cabarrus County honors the service and sacrifices of local heroes.
Cabarrus Veterans Services is once again collaborating with the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus' Keystone Club and the City of Concord to host the Annual Veterans Day Celebration event.
The event is set for November 11 at 11 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Club facility (247 Spring St. NW). Refreshments will be provided by Oak Grove Baptist Church Veterans Ministry.
This year’s keynote speaker is United States Coast Guard Rear Admiral Miriam L. Lafferty.
Before her retirement in 2024, Lafferty served 30 years in various roles, including Deputy Director of Operations, U.S. Northern Command; Reserve Officer, Deputy Commandant for Operations in Washington, D.C.; Reserve Chief of Staff, Atlanta Area in Portsmouth, Virginia; and Senior Reserve Officer, District Seven in Miami, Florida.
Keystone Club members performing at the event include Alesia Richardson (“The National Anthem”), Zarriya York (“America the Beautiful”) and Kazareah Smith (“God Bless America”), while Club President Leah Williams will deliver the welcome message and club member Jemani Brooks will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
“This event is a great opportunity to celebrate those in our community who have sacrificed so much,” said Veterans Services Director Tony R. Miller, “Each year, it’s inspiring to see all those proud faces in the crowd.”
All Cabarrus County veterans are invited to attend.
Residents invited to join Operation Green Light
Cabarrus County is once again participating in Operation Green Light, an initiative of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners and the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers.
To honor veterans, residents are asked to shine their own green light of hope, support and recognition through November 11.
During the Cabarrus County Commissioners October Regular Meeting, the board recognized the contributions and sacrifices of the local men and women who served in the armed forces through a proclamation read by Miller.
