Dispose Household Hazardous Waste

What Is Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)?

Household hazardous waste includes chemicals you’ve used:

Sometimes, these hazardous chemicals can be embedded in another product. For example, light bulb or battery.

HHWs include:

  • Paint and related materials
  • Pesticides
  • Brake fluid
  • Gasoline
  • Pool chemicals
  • Oven cleaner
  • Nail polish
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Deck cleaner
  • Kerosene

The Purpose of a Household Hazardous Waste Facility

Dumping hazardous items down the drain isn’t the only problem. Household chemicals thrown in the trash in Cabarrus get taken to the landfill in Concord.

Thankfully, we offer an alternative. The Cabarrus County's Household Hazardous Waste Facility. There, HHW can be reused, recycled or properly disposed.

The Cabarrus County Household Hazardous Waste Facility accepts residential hazardous household waste ONLY. This facility cannot accept waste from business, commercial and non-profit groups.

Prohibited are:

  • Medical or infectious wastes
  • Radioactive wastes
  • Explosives
  • Grill-sized propane tanks

Residents can bring unwanted pharmaceutical medication to local law enforcement drop off locations. Do NOT bring them to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection. Residents can ship smoke detectors to be properly recycled to Curie Environmental Services. Do NOT bring them to Household Hazardous Waste Collection.
