Dumping hazardous items down the drain isn’t the only problem. Household chemicals thrown in the trash in Cabarrus get taken to the landfill in Concord.
Thankfully, we offer an alternative. The Cabarrus County's Household Hazardous Waste Facility. There, HHW can be reused, recycled or properly disposed.
The Cabarrus County Household Hazardous Waste Facility accepts residential hazardous household waste ONLY. This facility cannot accept waste from business, commercial and non-profit groups.

Residents can bring unwanted pharmaceutical medication to local law enforcement drop off locations. Do NOT bring them to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection. Residents can ship smoke detectors to be properly recycled to Curie Environmental Services. Do NOT bring them to Household Hazardous Waste Collection.

Free Paint Available
We have a swap shop for recovered latex and spray paint, though you don’t need to bring paint to take some. The service is available to all Cabarrus County residents, institutions and businesses. Just call us to set up an appointment.

We’re open for household hazardous waste drop off only on the:
FIRST WEDNESDAY of the month from 8 am - 4 pm
THIRD SATURDAY of each month from 8 am - 1 pm
These hours are permitted by the State. They get restricted based on safety precautions.
The HHW facility is open as a recycling convenience center:
Monday through Friday, 8 am - 5 pm
