Cabarrus County Government’s Information Technology Systems (ITS) Department earned first place in the 23rd annual Digital Counties Survey, held by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) and the National Association of Counties (NACo).

The award came in the 150,000 – 249,999 population category, which Cabarrus also won in 2021 and 2019. The County has placed in the top 10 of that category for the past 13 years, a testament to its consistency in innovation.

This year, Cabarrus landed the top spot for their work in aligning IT strategy with civic engagement.

The survey noted two examples of why Cabarrus earned the award:

  • Building tools like the Early Voting Wait Times app, which offers real-time polling location details to voters
  • Developing an internal application programming interface, which streamlines secure development workflows and accelerates project delivery, the department is driving innovation that serves public needs and internal efficiency.

“I’m incredibly proud of our ITS team and the continued recognition they earn,” said County Manager Sean Newton. “Their success is powered by a commitment to innovation, teamwork and delivering impactful solutions for employees and residents.”

The Digital Counties Survey was developed in partnership with NACo and conducted by CDG. The survey identifies the best technology practices among U.S. counties, including developing initiatives that streamline delivery of government services; providing data analytics to allow decisions based on performance and outcomes; enhancing cybersecurity and applying innovative and emerging technologies to county priorities.
