Portion of downtown Concord street closing for crane repair

An area near the intersection of Market Street SW and Barbrick Avenue will close today (October 5) at 3 p.m. as crews make emergency repairs to the on-site construction crane.

A second crane will be used to help make the repairs.

Workers will position the second crane along Barbrick between the intersections with Spring Street and Market. This will prevent motorists from turning from Market Street onto Barbrick Avenue SW, which is a one-way street.

Motorists at the intersection of Barbrick and Market will have to turn right onto Market to get around the closure.

If repairs to the crane components are minimal, the work is expected to take about 12 hours. If the damage is significant, the closure could be in place until late Monday (October 8).

The county is building the 614-spot downtown parking deck on the corner of Corban Avenue and Spring Street -- across from the Cabarrus County Courthouse -- to help with increased parking demands for courthouse activities.
