Market Street closing for construction crane removal

The sectional 375-foot construction crane towering over downtown Concord will soon come down after crews finish concrete work on the fifth and final parking deck floor.

To accommodate the removal, Market Street SW will close for two 12-hour periods overnight Monday and Tuesday.

Market will close entirely between 6 p.m. Monday (Oct. 22) and 6 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 23) and again between 6 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 23) and 6 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 24).

Street parking along Market will be affected beginning Monday afternoon to ensure spaces are available for the crane laydown.

Once the crane is removed, work will begin on the façade and elevator shaft, said Kyle Bilafer, Cabarrus County area manager of operations. The project remains on track for completion in March 2019, Bilafer added.

Cabarrus County is building the 614-spot deck on the corner of Corban Avenue SW and Spring Street SW to accommodate Cabarrus County Courthouse activities and downtown visitors on evenings and weekends.
