Cabarrus This Week is panning for gold to see if we can strike it rich at the Reed Gold Mine in Midland.
Folks from across the South will search for gold in these hills at the 29th Annual Pan-O-Lympics, Saturday, September 8, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Also known as the North Carolina Open Gold Panning Competition, is for experienced gold planners and novices.
Miners will compete for speed along historic Little Meadow Creek, site of the first documented gold discovery in the United States.
Free activities available include guided underground tours, demonstrations of the 1895 stamp mill, orientation film and visitor center exhibits.
