Cabarrus Summer Reading Events, July 29 - August 3

Blast off with the Cabarrus County Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is 'A Universe of Stories.' The program divides participants into groups—birth to 5 years old, 6 to 12 years old, 12 to 18 years old, and adult—with age-appropriate programs, performers and events. The program continues through August 17.

Register online and print reading logs or register and collect reading logs at any branch of the Cabarrus County Public Library System. View the 2019 Summer Reading Program events.

July 29

Kindergarten Training Camp

11 a.m., Concord (27 Union St. N), Rising kindergartners

Prepare your child for “big school” with a day of 5K fun that includes stories, games and activities. Along the way, they will learn important skills, like raising their hand, standing in line and listening to instructions.

Coding Camp (Registration Required)

1 p.m., Kannapolis (850 Mountain St.), Ages 7-12

Coders will learn the basics as they work through a different project each day. Registration is required for each of the daily one-hour sessions.

Read at lightspeed (Registration Required)

3:30 - 5 p.m., Concord (27 Union St. N), Ages 5-12

Don’t slip on the “summer slide.” Drop in to practice your reading fluency and comprehension with a teen tutor. You’ll travel at warp 9.9 before the end of summer.

Spark Joy Workshop

5:30 p.m., Concord (27 Union St. N), Ages 18 and up

Take a deep dive into the KonMari Method at this free workshop. Shannon Huneycutt, owner of Spark Joy Charlotte and a certified KonMari consultant trained by Marie Kondo, will present on the overall philosophy of sparking joy in your home. Attendees will leave with inspiration to get started on their KonMari journey when they return home.

Creative writing for teens

Learn how to transform an idea into a beautifully written work. This monthly workshop equips young writers with the tools to develop their inner writer, including story prompts, poetry tips and group critiques.

August 2
