Shelter upgrade means temporary changes to facility location
Oct. 24, 2013 – Beginning Oct. 28, the Cabarrus County Animal Shelter will temporarily close its facility at 244 Betsy Carpenter Place in Concord for planned renovations. During the six-week process, crews will install epoxy flooring to help minimize bacteria growth on the shelter floor. Dogs and cats housed at the shelter will relocate to an indoor facility, located at 103 Commercial Drive in Concord, or move to a facility of the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County.
The Humane Society, and Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and General Services Department have worked together to identify needs and organize the move.
Thanks to public support and proactive planning, the Humane Society has placed several of its animals in adoptive homes over the past few months, which has opened space for animals affected by the relocation. The Humane Society will also hold special adoption events featuring animals housed in the temporary shelter, dates to be announced.
Residents searching for a missing pet during the renovation can contact Cabarrus County Animal Control at 704-920-3288. The temporary location will not accept surrendered animals.
