Cabarrus County DHS hosts community forums, begininng Jan. 23

Jan. 16, 2013 — The Cabarrus County Department of Human Services (DHS) will hold a series of free community forums, with the first taking place on Thursday, January 23, 6:30 p.m., at Kimball Lutheran Church (101 Vance Street) in Kannapolis.
The forums will give a high-level overview of DHS operations, allow residents to ask questions, and provide an opportunity for residents to browse information on DHS programs and ask questions in a one-on-one setting.
Through the forums, the community will learn about economic, child welfare, child support, adult and aging, and transportation services that are administered by the county. Along the way, the community will hear interesting facts and figures, and leave with a comprehensive understanding of the department.
The forums, a first for DHS, give representatives the opportunity to step outside the structured role of program administration and focus on conversations, relationships and community support. The diversity of programs featured at the event make it relevant to many segments of the community, including families, caregivers, educators, health care professionals, employers, faith-based organizations and leaders.
“The work we do each day is very personal. The services we administer have a direct impact on the course of someone’s life—it’s life support,” said Ben Rose, director of Cabarrus County DHS. “We want to build upon the honest conversations we have within the county and with our partners. The forums give Cabarrus residents an opportunity to understand our operations and engage in real discussions about moving Cabarrus forward.”
