Island hop at the December 10 Senior Christmas Party

Seniors trade snowflakes for sand at the year’s hottest party

Dec. 5, 2013 — Seniors can sail away to an island of holiday fun at the annual Seniors’ Christmas Party on Tuesday, December 10, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Cabarrus Arena and Events Center (4751 NC Hwy 49 North, Concord).
This year’s theme is Christmas in the Islands. Open to the public, older adults who are young-at-heart can kick back, relax and soak up some holiday cheer with festive friends. The celebration includes door prizes, refreshments, entertainment and pictures with Santa. Admission is free and individual registration is not required; however, groups are asked to make reservations by calling 704-920-3484.
Teresa Kiser with Cabarrus’ Active Living and Parks Department says the event engages older adults in fun and social activities, and raises awareness of the programs, events and classes at the Cabarrus County Senior Centers.
“The party is a great opportunity for seniors to learn more about the variety of programming we offer throughout the year,” said Kiser. “We want them to know there’s a little something for everyone.”
The Cabarrus County Senior Centers help redefine active aging in Cabarrus, with rotating schedules of healthy living, educational and entertainment activities. The centers are located in Concord (331 Corban Ave.) and Mount Pleasant (8615 Park Dr.), and each offers a variety of classes and activities—most of which are free or at a low cost. Residents can make jewelry, learn about computers, practice sign language, learn about disease management and take dance classes. You can also participate in exercise classes, such as yoga, tai chi, Pilates, aerobics and line dancing.
