Cabarrus County Local Emergency Planning Committee in Partnership with EnviroSafe Consulting Present: Hazardous materials emergency preparedness (HMEP) workshop
Feb, 26, 2014 -- The Cabarrus County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) will host a multi-session hazardous material workshop focused on emergency preparedness, Wednesday, March 19, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. (399 Biotechnology Ln. Kannapolis.)
This workshop will include training that meets the three-year requirement of the Department of Transportation (DOT) 49 CFR-172.704 for employers/employees that load, unload, label, and/or handle hazardous materials. These workshop sessions are free of charge to all attendees and lunch will be provided to those who attend session 1 through 3.
8:30-9 a.m.- Registration
9-10 a.m.- Emergency Preparedness
10-10:15 a.m.- Break
10:15-12:15 a.m.- DOT Hazmat Transportation Safety Training
12:15-1 p.m.- Lunch
1- 2 p.m.- Chemical Reporting Requirements
2-3 p.m.- Cabarrus County LEPC Meeting
Session 1: Emergency Preparedness (1 hour)
Attendees will be provided an overview of how private industry, healthcare, and other institutions can better prepare for hazardous materials incidents as well as general emergency preparedness.
Session 2: DOT Hazmat Transportation Safety Training (2 hours)
This session applies to any employee who works for a company that loads, unloads, labels, packages, and/or handles any DOT regulated hazardous material. Attending will meet the training requirements mandated by CFR 172.704 for three years.
Session 3: Chemical Reporting Requirements (1 hour)
The instructor will cover the various regulatory programs and reporting requirements, as well as how they relate to hazardous materials preparedness.
