June 23, 2014 – Cabarrus This Week explores local history right here, in the heart of Concord, at the Concord Museum. The Historic Cabarrus Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of the heritage of Cabarrus County and the City of Concord.

The newest exhibition, “Downtown Concord Everything Old is New Again,” features the historic architecture of Union Street around the turn of the 20th Century. It focuses on properties from approximately Central United Methodist Church on Union Street, North, to St. James Lutheran Church on Union Street, South.

The exhibition features photos of the old post office, city hall, the Cabarrus County Courthouse of 1876, the trolley station and more. Over 50 local artifacts are also on display. Prominent local businesses like the Dayvault Meat Market and Ritchie Hardware Company demonstrate local commerce of days gone by. Comparison photos of the current buildings and businesses showcase the evolution and development of the area.

For more information on Downtown Concord Everything Old is New Again, open through October 9, or the Concord Museum, located at 65 Union St. S., open Tuesdays through Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., call 704-920-2465 or visit www.historiccabarrus.org.
