Emergency Management Director
Bobby Smith came to Cabarrus in 2001 as an assistant fire marshal, was promoted to Fire Marshal in 2002 and became the Emergency Management Director in 2003. He has more than 30 years in the emergency services profession.
Prior to coming to Cabarrus County, Smith worked 15 years full-time with the Greensboro Fire Department and 12 years part-time with Guilford County Emergency Services.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from John Wesley University in management and ethics, as well as numerous emergency management and fire service certifications.
Smith is a United States Navy veteran who served as a medic during Operation Desert Shield/Storm assigned to the 2nd Marine Division.
He is a member of several state and national emergency service professional organizations and has served as a peer reviewer for FEMA grants. He has worked local, regional, state and national disaster events.
He lives in Kannapolis with his wife, an employee of Kannapolis City Schools. He has a son in college majoring in computer engineering.
