How can I get a library card?

CCPL library cards are available for free to residents of Cabarrus County, ages 5 and up, along with: 

  • Rowan County residents
  • Employees of Cabarrus County
  • Employees of Cabarrus County Schools
  • Employees of Kannapolis City Schools
  • Students and Faculty of Barber-Scotia College, Rowan Cabarrus Community College, Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, Woodson University

A picture ID and proof of address is required to get a library card. Any eligible non-residents listed above should bring proof of employment/enrollment. Children's cards must be linked to an adult card, who assumes responsibility for those materials. 

Non-residents may also get a card for a $15 annual fee. For all guidelines and rules regarding library cards, please review our Circulation Policy

How do I schedule or verify a Transportation appointment?

If you are already an active rider with the Transportation Department, call 704-920-2246 to request a ride or verify your pickup time. If not already active, call 704-920-1583 to complete an assessment and be entered into the system. To schedule a pick up, you must call no later than 1 p.m. the day before the appointment. If the appointment is on Monday, you need to call by 1 p.m. on the Friday before. You can schedule rides up to two months in advance.

How can I become an approved animal rescue?

We welcome rescuers to the Cabarrus County Animal Shelter. Please review our protocol and requirements and submit a rescue application. Our shelter rescue coordinator will be in touch.

 

How do I volunteer at the animal shelter?

Please review our donations list. Thanks again for you interest in helping with the animals!  We appreciate it!

How do I report barking or a dangerous dog?

Please call 704-920-3000 to report an animal nuisance. 

You may remain anonymous but you must give the exact address of where the animals are located. Cabarrus County Sheriff Dispatch will send an Animal Control Officer out to the location.

How do I volunteer at the animal shelter?

We are a County run shelter and have to follow County and NC Dept. of Agriculture rules. Please read the requirements that volunteers must follow. If you

If you feel your meet all the volunteer requirements, please fill out our Volunteer Questionnaire.  This will help us get an idea of your experience level and your areas of interest in volunteering at the shelter.  Once we receive your questionnaire we will then get in touch with you to schedule a meet and greet and the volunteer orientation and training.   

If you don’t meet the requirements but would still like to help the animals in some way, review our donation list.  We always need donations for the animals!  Thanks again  for you interest in helping with the animals!  We appreciate it!

Is there a leash law for cats and dogs?

There is a leash law ordinance in Cabarrus County for dogs. There is no leash law for cats.

How can I submit documents needed for DHS assistance?

Send necessary documents by mail or drop off at 1303 S. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083, or fax them to 704-920-1401.

What are the hours of operation for the Cabarrus County Department of Human Services?

DHS hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
