VA Disability Compensation

Veterans may be eligible to receive tax-free monthly benefits. This eligibility is not effected by when or where they served. Those included are veterans who have:

  • disabilities
  • medical conditions
  • injuries incurred or aggravated during active military service

Requirements for Application

  • VA award letter showing service-connected conditions
  • Copy of veteran's death and marriage certificates
  • Private treatment records or addresses of treating doctors and treatment dates

Surviving Spouse and Dependents Compensation Eligibility

Dependency and Indemnity Compensation is awarded to the veteran's surviving spouse and children. The veteran's death must be:

  • related to their active duty service or
  • a result of the veteran's service connected disability 

This compensation can be granted if the veteran:

  • was rated 100% service-connected for ten or more years at the time of death
  • dies from non-service-connected causes other than willful misconduct

Surviving parent(s) may be eligible for an income-based benefit. This benefit is called Parents' Dependency and Indemnity Compensation.
