The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office SVR Team (Special Vehicle Response Team) was a vision of officers who had worked numerous mass population events and special assignments but did not have the appropriate equipment to handle the assigned tasks. After meeting with the Sheriff’s Office Administration, a vision came together of what this team would look like and how it would come to be. In late 2009, the team began to form and with the assistance of local grants, funding was secured to equip the team with needed ATVs and UTVs. The SVR Team transformed over the years and began to be a valuable tool in searching for missing and endangered persons, as well as persons of interest and fugitives from justice.

The SVR Team is now the primary team used for mass population events such as the annual NASCAR races and many other events within the county. It is a team of trained agency members who have completed hundreds of hours of tracking and developing plans to locate missing persons.

Working events such as the yearly NASCAR races at the Charlotte Motor Speedway allows the Sheriff’s Office to have vehicles that can maneuver on rough terrain and densely populated areas enabling officers to:

  • patrol larger areas and answer calls for service
  • handle vehicle collisions
  • maintain peace by preventing / stopping conflict, domestic disputes and assaults

They often team with Cabarrus County EMS and Emergency Management. EMS’s team is known as STORM (Special Tactical Operations Response Medics}.
