Inmate Programs

Cabarrus Detention Center does not want to just house inmates. We want to offer programs that help them become productive members of our community. Inmate programs were developed in 2012.

Mission

Provide inmates opportunity for change through positive experiences with community and faith-based organizations. These organizations help individuals become successful and productive members of our community.

Purpose

Keep inmate residents productively occupied through learning. This learning provides opportunities for change and reintegration into our community and society.

Currently, 53 members of our community teach classes. All classes are led by committed volunteers who believe in our mission. Volunteers have provided 18,134 classroom hours. Over 93,000 inmates have participated in one or more classes since 2012.

Stepping Up

Cabarrus County Commissioners signed a Proclamation supporting the Stepping Up Initiative in 2017. The Cabarrus Detention Center partnered with Daymark Recovery to make this program an opportunity for those individuals who have positive mental health or substance use screens. Eligible individuals are linked to services through a transition plan. Cabarrus Health Alliance now provides two case managers who meet with individuals to provide pre-release case management that includes treatment options and identify basic life needs following release.  Post release case management is then provided after incarceration.

AA Recovery

Alcoholics Anonymous started in the fall of 2011 in the Cabarrus County Detention Center.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share experience and hope with each other to try to solve common problems and help others to recover from alcoholism. AA group meetings consist of messages of recovery from active AA members in a recovery program. When inmates are released, meeting information will be made available so inmates can continue the road to recovery, which is started in the Detention Center setting.
