Preparing for disaster—Public survey on Hazard Mitigation

Oct. 31, 2013 – Cabarrus, Stanly and Union counties are currently engaged in a planning process to reduce vulnerabilities to natural disasters. Planners are calling on the public to become part of this important process by participating in a short survey.

The counties, along with participating local jurisdictions and other participating partners, are preparing a multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The purpose of this Plan is to identify and assess our community’s natural hazard risks and determine how to best minimize or manage those risks. Upon completion, the Plan will represent a comprehensive multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan for the three-county region.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan survey gives you the opportunity to share your opinions and participate in the mitigation planning process. The information you provide will help us better understand your hazard concerns and can lead to mitigation activities that should help lessen the impact of future hazard events.

Participate in the Hazard Mitigation Plan Survey

The deadline to participate in the survey is Jan. 31, 2014. If you have questions regarding this survey or would like to learn about more ways you can participate in the development of the Cabarrus Stanly Union Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, please contact Nathan Slaughter with Atkins, the planning consultants for the project at 919-431-5251 or by email at nathan.slaughter@atkinsglobal.com.
