Nov. 18, 2013 – This week, we’re visiting with one of the popular LunchPlus sites in Cabarrus County, Living Water Church in Kannapolis. This is one of five sites across Cabarrus County where individuals age 60 and above can participate in the program that is dedicated to keeping minds and bodies engaged. Each weekday, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. seniors can come out to meet friends, take exercise classes, receive health education and enjoy a free, hot, nutritious lunch.

LunchPlus focuses on providing the same types of programs at each location. You’re greeted on your way in, and are immediately welcomed into the busy atmosphere. Each day, the program’s complimentary lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. If you like to work up an appetite, fitness classes are also available for a nominal fee. Transportation assistance is available.

The LunchPlus program has existed for over 15 years and continues to make an impact on the community by providing nutrient rich, balanced meals and opening up a social outlet for older adults. In the past month alone, the program has served over 4,400 meals to Cabarrus residents. Along with the meals, a variety of fitness classes are available for every fitness level, monthly blood pressure tests are offered free of charge, or participants can learn from a number of health education classes, ranging from identity theft to fire prevention.

Whether you are new to the area, or are looking to make more connections to the community, LunchPlus offers flexible activity options.

LunchPlus Club meets Monday-Friday 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. at five locations across Cabarrus: at the Logan Multipurpose Center in Concord, at the Harrisburg UM Church in Harrisburg, United Love Baptist Church in Midland, Cabarrus County Senior Center in Mt. Pleasant and Living Water Church in Kannapolis.
