Former Board of Elections building to come down

Demolition will begin later this week on the former Cabarrus County Board of Elections building, located at 53 Corban Ave. in downtown Concord. The lot where the building stands will be converted to a 21-space parking lot for governmental business. Four of those spaces will be designated for handicap parking.

The building, which has structural issues, will come down in pieces over several days. Some brick will be salvaged during the demolition.

The building demolition and parking lot construction is expected to be complete in 90 days. During this time, one lane of traffic will be closed on Corban Avenue per request by N.C. Department of Transportation.
