Final days to participate in the Power of Age survey

Sept. 11, 2013 — Cabarrus County residents have until Sept. 15 to participate in the Power of Age survey.

No matter your age, individuals can provide input through a survey on the type of programs and services they see of benefit to a growing segment of the population—residents age 55 or older.

According to the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management, by the year 2020, seniors will make up more than 26 percent of the Cabarrus County population. The County is looking to understand how to best serve the population, which includes residents in varying stages of activity, ability, health and need.

Under the direction of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners, a voluntary task force of government, public and private organizations has committed to addressing aging-related topics, including accessibility, employment, finance, housing, health, wellness and recreation.

The community can provide input on those topics and more in a short survey, available online or in person, in English and Spanish.

Residents without computer access are invited to take the survey between  8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Cabarrus County Senior Centers (331 Corban Ave., Concord and 8615 Park Dr., Mt. Pleasant), between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Cabarrus County Government Center (Room 235, 65 Church St. SE, Concord) or at any scheduled County Lunch Plus meal site.

With guidance from the survey, input from community partners and feedback from the Board of Commissions, the task force will design a five-year strategic plan to assist aging adults and their families in Cabarrus County. The task force will present the plan to the Board of Commissioners in early 2014.
