Cabarrus EMS Wins Regional Paramedic Competition

A paramedic team from Cabarrus County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) earned top honors by winning the NC Office of EMS Regional Paramedic Competition for Region 4 recently held in Wake County.  The team will now advance to the State Finals to be held October 2, 2011 in Greensboro, NC to compete against other regional winners and the defending state champions from Surry County. 

Justin Brines and Will Cannon finished in the runner-up position at the Region 3 site and will be listed as an alternate.

Mark Kirk and Jeff Penninger received the honors for their performance on the comprehensive written examination and complex practical scenario.  Mark Kirk currently serves as an EMS Field Training Officer with 13 years EMS experience, and Jeff Penninger currently serves as a Crew Chief with 11 years EMS experience.

Paramedic competitions provide a unique training experience and improve the quality of care across the state.  Cabarrus EMS has consistently performed well in paramedic competitions in the past with a total of seven regional wins and five runner-up finishes.
