Burning ban effective immediately due to windy and dry conditions

The Cabarrus County Fire Marshal has issued a burning ban that prohibits burning within 100 feet of a structure. This local ban is effective in all unincorporated areas of Cabarrus County beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24 until 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25.

Any previously issued burning permits are now invalid and fires should be extinguished immediately. This includes any outdoor burning at a residence. Anyone in violation of the burning ban could receive fines.

Southwest winds will increase between 20 and 30 mph today across Western North Carolina with possible gusts as high as 40 to 50 mph at times during the afternoon and early evening hours. Although showers and thunderstorms will be possible throughout the day, rainfall amounts are not expected to be heavy enough in most locations to significantly wet fuels and natural vegetation. The very windy and relatively dry conditions will greatly increase the fire danger.
