2014 Cabarrus primary election information

Early voting begins April 24; Primary election May 6

April 3, 2014 -- ​The 2014 primary election will take place on Tuesday, May 6. Registered voters can head to the polls on April 24 for early voting for the 2014 primary elections through May 3.

Races

There are two federal and several state and county positions open for election

 

  • Cabarrus County residents voting in the Republican primary may cast votes for U.S. Senate, U.S. House - District 12; State Representative - District 82, State Senator - District 36, NC Supreme Court Associate Justice, Board of County Commissioners (three seats) and Kannapolis Board of Education Area One (two seats).
  • Cabarrus County residents voting in the Democratic primary may cast votes for U.S. Senate, U.S. House - District 12, NC Supreme Court Associate Justice and Kannapolis Board of Education Area One (two seats).
  • Cabarrus County residents voting in the Libertarian primary may cast votes for U.S. Senate, NC Supreme Court Associate Justice and Kannapolis Board of Education Area One (two seats).
  • Cabarrus County residents voting in the Non-partisan primary may cast votes for NC Supreme Court Associate Justice and Kannapolis Board of Education Area One (two seats).

Republicans and Democrats will be able to cast votes for their party’s candidates in the primary election, while independent voters may choose to vote either in the Republican or Democratic primary.

Important dates

  • Last Day to Register or Change Address (postmark/hand deliver) is Friday, April 11.
  • Absentees ballots may be returned by mail or in person. The last day to request an absentee ballots by mail is Tuesday, April 29. All absentee ballots must be returned to the Cabarrus County Board of Elections office, located at 369 Church Street in downtown Concord, by 5 p.m. on May 6.
  • Early voting starts on Thursday, April 24 and will run through Saturday, May 3. Registered voters can cast their ballots at the Cabarrus County Board of Elections office, located at 369 Church Street in downtown Concord. The Board of Elections office is open to voters Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. through Friday, May 2. On Saturday, April 26, early voting will take place from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. The last day for early voting will be Saturday, May 3 from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.
  • The primary election will take place Tuesday, May 6, from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Voters can participate in the election at assigned precincts.
