Harrisburg Area Residents Invited to Land Use Plan Open House

July 21, 2010 – A Community Open House is scheduled Tuesday, July 27 to unveil the draft of the Harrisburg Land Use Plan. This draft is the result of community input regarding guidelines for future development in and around the Harrisburg area. Residents living in the plan area are invited to view the proposed plan and make comments by dropping in between 3:30 and 6:30 pm Tuesday, July 27 at the Cabarrus County Public Library – Harrisburg branch at 201 Sims Parkway in Harrisburg.

Through a series of community meetings and workshops over the past several months, design experts led community members through brain-storming sessions to identify the community’s assets and benefits and to determine best uses and mapping options for desirable land use alternatives, including transportation, utilities, schools, fire, police, parks, and open space. Consultants with LandDesign have taken this feedback and developed proposed land use maps and a draft land use plan.

Cabarrus County, in cooperation with the Town of Harrisburg, is working together to create this new land use plan for a pre-defined area in and around Harrisburg, which is loosely bounded by the Rocky River, Rocky River Road and the Mecklenburg County line. The plan will guide leaders of Cabarrus County, the Town of Harrisburg and Cabarrus County Schools as they consider new development and school construction in this area.

All maps, presentations and documents related to this Harrisburg Area Land Use Plan effort are posted on the Cabarrus County website. In addition, all citizen comments are transcribed and posted on this website. For details, call 704-920-2141 or log on to http://planning.cabarruscounty.us/harrisburg.
