Cabarrus Senior Games Entry Packets Now Available

January 29, 2010 – Entry packets are now available for the annual Cabarrus County Senior Games – a year–round health and wellness program that encourages adults 55 and older to stay involved in sports and arts throughout their lifetime. Packets can be picked up at the Cabarrus County Senior Centers in Mount Pleasant and Concord, all LunchPlus Club locations, City of Concord Parks and Recreation Department, Town of Harrisburg Parks and Recreation Department and the Cabarrus County Parks Department.

Sports and events range from the “backyard” events of childhood such as horseshoes, shuffleboard, badminton and table tennis, to those lifetime events of swimming, golf and bowling. The games also offer more strenuous events such as cycling, racquetball, track and field events, softball and basketball teams. The SilverArts events include literary, heritage, visual and the performing arts as well as a cheerleading competition. Fun, fitness, and fellowship – and of course competition – are all part of the games.

Opening Ceremonies will be held at 9 am on Wednesday, March 11 at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center located at 4751 Old Airport Rd. Events will run weekly until Closing Ceremonies on Saturday, May 15 at the Cabarrus County Senior Center in Concord.

Cabarrus Senior Games is coordinated by the Cabarrus County Senior Centers, the Cabarrus County Department of Aging Advisory Board, Cabarrus County Parks Department, the City of Concord Parks & Recreation Department, Cabarrus County Council on Aging and the Town of Harrisburg Parks & Recreation Department.

For a complete listing of events, to receive an entry packet or more information, contact Joan Swaringen, at 704-920-3484.
