Several Cabarrus County Roads Flooded Due to Storm

January 25, 2010 – Several roads in Harrisburg and Kannapolis have flooded due to an overnight storm that led to the rising of the Rocky River and its tributaries. Residents in eight homes have evacuated and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The following roads are closed:

Caldwell Street at Back Creek
Stallings Road at Back Creek and at Quail Hollow
Pharr Mill Road at Back Creek
Tom Query Road
Robindale
Patricia at Parallel
Little Buffalo Creek at Hwy 49

Several homes in the Rocky River Crossing neighborhood in Harrisburg have voluntarily evacuated due to water in crawl spaces of their homes. In addition, several homes on Oakcrest and Verona Streets in Kannapolis have evacuated. Residents of Kannapolis Village, nursing care facility on Pine Street, also were evacuated.

The American Red Cross has set up a shelter at the YMCA at 101 YMCA Drive in Kannapolis for anyone needing assistance.

Additional flooding could occur throughout the county as rain continues. Motorists are reminded not to attempt to cross over standing water or flooded bridges.
