Several Roads Closed Due to Flooding

February 5, 2010 – Several roads in Cabarrus County currently are closed due to flooding:

  • Bethel School Road between Midland Road and US Highway 601;
  • Hopewell Road between Drake Road and Kiser Road;
  • Stough Road at April Court
  • 3000–block of Midland Road
  • Club View Road at Walden Pond
  • Barrier–Georgeville Road at Sanctuary Road
  • Bowman –Barrier Road at Boston Road
  • Pharr Mill Road at Paul Linker Road

Pharr Mill Road Park also is closed due to flooding of the boardwalk adjacent to the Rocky River.

Cabarrus County is now under a flood warning, which means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. Widespread flooding is expected as a band of heavier rain moves into the area this afternoon.

The Rocky River in western Cabarrus County and Back Creek both are near their banks. Flooding of smaller creeks and streams is expected as the rain continues through Saturday. Urban areas also may experience flooding due to poor drainage, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents are asked to use caution. Motorists are reminded not to attempt to drive over standing water or flooded bridges. In addition, children and pets should be kept away from storm drains and creeks.
