Community to Meet New Veterans Services Director at Veterans Day Program

November 9, 2009 – Travis Waldron will become the new director of the Cabarrus County Veterans Services Office beginning November 30. He replaces Sharon Eury, who is retiring after 20 years serving the veterans living in Cabarrus County.

Waldron will be introduced to the community at the annual Veterans Day program at 11 am Wednesday, November 11 at the Cabarrus County Boys and Girls Club.

Travis Waldron Waldron comes to Cabarrus County with an extensive background in the military. He served in the United States Army for 20 years as a medic, including service in Operation Just Cause in Panama, Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia, as well as conflicts in Bosnia and Croatia. He also worked five years at the US Army Academy of Health and Science in San Antonia, Texas.

Waldron spent five of the past six years as a first sergeant and a healthcare manager at the Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg. Following his retirement from the military, Waldron spent this past year as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch.

Waldron earned a masters of business administration from Webster University of St. Louis, Mo. and a bachelors degree in business administration from Wayland Baptist University of Plainview, Texas. He also holds licensures in securities and life and health insurance.

“I’m excited to be able to use my knowledge in both healthcare and business administration to assist veterans seeking benefits and resources. My business background allows me to navigate through the system and provide advanced research expertise. I also bring with me a ton of resources within the veterans’ services network,” Waldron said. In addition, he notes that he has seen many wartime injuries through his service as an Army medic and understands the long–term health implications.

The County Veterans Services office is located in the Cabarrus County Governmental Center at 65 Church Street in Concord. The office can assist local veterans in determining their eligibility and applying for various programs and services offered by the US Office of Veterans Affairs, including filing claims, filing insurance, healthcare benefits, and education and scholarship assistance.
