Residents Complete County Government 101
November 18, 2009 – Cabarrus Neighborhood Partners graduated its fourth County Government 101 class on Monday, November 16. The participants were honored with a graduation ceremony after being recognized at Monday night’s Board of Commissioners meeting.
Twenty–nine participants dedicated every Tuesday evening for 8 weeks to learn the ins and outs of local government and how to become more involved in Cabarrus County. The course included hands–on opportunities like a simulated budget exercise, a behind–the–scenes tour of the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Administration Building and several opportunities to speak directly to County leadership.
The purpose of the course is to give citizens the opportunity to learn about the services and programs available through Cabarrus County, discover the procedural why’s and practical how’s behind local government, and learn ways to better utilize County services in their communities.
“County Government 101 is a great course that allows us to educated residents about how their County functions while creating an open dialogue with our residents,” said Cabarrus County Community Relations Coordinator Chantel Thompson. “We are very proud of our residents who have completed the course and we look forward to working with next year’s participants,” she said.
There is no cost to take County Government 101, however the class size is limited to 30 participants and registration is required. The next County Government 101 will begin in September of 2010; applications will be available at www.cabarruscounty.us/neighborhood in July 2010.
